All Things Horsey

I have been charged with setting up the seminar for open and 4H judges by the Wisc. State Horse Council.(yep, lucky me) 2009's seminar will be held March 21 & 22 at Heartland Stables 10 miles east of Steven's Point, Wi. The topics for the seminar will be saddleseat pleasure and equitation and gaited horses. What I need are a few saddlebreds, morgans, and any gaited breeds to demonstrate Sat. afternoon and for the live judging Sunday morning. At this point in time very few folks involved with these types of horses are willing to chance an open or 4H show because so many of the judges are locked into quarter horses and know nothing (or next to it) about anything else. I have 4H kids come to me every year crying because the 4H or open judge told them that they need to get rid of that (fill in the blank) horse and get a quarter horse if they want to compete. Some of us are trying to educate these judges in order to, maybe, level the playing field.
If anyone can help me out with horses and riders, please let me know.

Lynne, you may want to contact Knollwood. I know Scot has a 24 year old gaited horse Lexmark who is still showing by the way. He may be willing to use him or one from the academy program. He would probably have you talk to Nancy Turner. She supervises the whole academy thing. Also, call my trainer Terri Anne and see what she would recommend. We have a few equitation, pleasure horses in our academy program or may know who you should talk to.
