All Things Horsey

hey everyone,

my name is kathy. i teach riding. i live at willowbank farm in simpsonville kentucky. my family owns the arm with joan lurie as our partner. she is the trainer manager and does an awesome job at both.

i just took over the riding program at silver brook farm for debbie foley. her instructor quit in the winter so i was helping for a little bit and decided to stay. i had a program of my own for a long time but had t quit due to health problems rom lyme disease so this was a great opportunity to teach again. i just drive over every afternoon and do lessons and a few mornings a week.

we have tons of babies here! spring is wild at willowbank but beautiful.

i look forward to meeting you all. sometimes i am to busy to get on line but i will check as often as i can.

Willowbank is beautiful. You should post your lesson and farm under those forums. It's good advertising.

Hi Kathy,
How are things going at Willowbank? I bet it is a pretty busy time of year with all the babies.

hi nina,
yes, it is very busy here. i teach riding over at silver brook stables and that is keeping me busy. i have a day camp coming up in july. i had one in june. it was fun. they are exhausting, but i love the kids and they have so much fun. i let them paint one of my school horses the last day of camp. if they named a body part correctly they got to paint it whatever color they chose. the pony was great looking and the kids had so much fun doing it. i gave them all lessons and we did crafts and played horse games.

there are babies everywhere at willowbank!! it is fun, but crazy!

hope you are well.
what is going on with you these days?
thanks for checking in. have a nice day.

Hi Kathy,
Just preparing for the real estate stuff. We have been showing JC in UPHA Park Pleasure. He has been getting better with each show. I think ASAW will be his last show until the Wisconsin Futurity as there really is nothing we go to besides L'ville in August and he is definitely not ready for that not to mention they don't have park pleasure.

Glad to hear all is going well.

I think you have to win a class to qualify for Kansas City don't you? He has been reserve, but not yet won. He finally got the walk down. If he qualifies, I think we will take him to Kansas City. I actually got to ride him for the first time on Saturday. He is very sensible and nice to ride. We are definitely breeding back to First Night Out. We have two with that combo that have been successful--might as well go for three.

As far as Louisville, with the real estate starting, I don't think I'll be able to go. I need to start generating some sort of income if I am going to be able to keep him LOL

good luck, i hope you win one, sounds like you are so close!

i rode my mare this week too. it was abut the 3rd time for me. she is real sweet.

It's always fun to begin riding them. I found out that we are qualified for Kansas City. So, we'll see how he does at the Wisconsin Futurity and make our decision then.

i am glad you are qualified and can make your own decision.

i start summer camp monday. it is my second one of the summer. i love doing them, but it is exhausting, i have about 15 kids this time from 6-15. they stay from 9-5 and i teach them in the morning and then we do lunch and swim and then crafts and learn all kinds of horse stuff and play games on horses and all different things. they have a blast and i really do too, it is just so hot.

thier favorite game is paint the pony. on friday i let them paint one of my school horses.it is an educational game i got from a 4-h book. they learn body parts throughout the week and then friday i bring out the pony and call out parts. as they guess them correctly, they get to pick up a sponge and pick a color and go paint the body part. they have so much fun and the pony looks hilarious when we are done. the paint washes out in a day or two. she had a silver mane and tail and pink blaze and was wild looking last month!! she is spotted to begin with, so the paint really shows on the white.

i will let you know how camp goes. should be interesting. the litte kids always make it funny.

That does sound like fun. You should have posted your camp under camps in the forum. I know the girl that does the camps at our barn says the same thing-she loves it, but it is tiring. She does a mock horse show at the end and the kids love it.
