The gaits of the Tennissee Walking Horse are 1) the flatwalk- a 4 beat lateral gait similar to that of any other breed but more animated and accelerated and including a nodding motion of the head in time with the gait 2) the running walk- same as the flatwalk but with a longer stride and a bit more speed 3) the canter- the same as any other breed but often in a slow, rocking manner. In the show ring Trail Pleasure and Country Pleasure horses may be called to a "trail walk"- the same walk as any other breed performed in a relaxed manner on a long rein.
