We Made It

I think back to May when I was first going to show JC and how I wasn't sure he was ready for an amateur. Boy was I wrong. That horse does whatever you ask of him. He has come thru for me in the shows whenever I have needed him to be there. Yes, we have had our ups and downs, but, mostly, ups. He has been reserve grand champion twice and has always been in the ribbons for me. He has never quit on me or given up even when he had reason to.

I remember our second show. I arrived and JC's leg was sw… Continue

Jet and The Mannequin

It is funny how horses get so set in what they are doing that they forget how to be a horse. We recently retired a mare we had bred years ago. My sister has been showing her for the past 10 years. Jet (New York's Best M&N) started showing at the age of three in 3 year old fine harness. She also showed in 4 year old fine harness and my sister began showing her at the age of 5. Jet turned 13 last year and we decided she had done enough and would take over for her mother, who passed away years… Continue

What a Journey it Has Been!

As I read back through my many posts about JC (Buck Almighty), I began to think about our entire journey together and what a journey it has been. JC came to Winsome farms in August of 2006 when he was a yearling. I had only seen him a few times at his previous home. We have been breeding a long time and, from the day he arrived at Winsome, I knew I had to have him. He was the one baby that just touched my heart. He was big and lanky with this wonderfully chiseled face and a flaxen mane and tail… Continue

4 Weeks and Counting

I remember a year ago, we were wondering if JC would make it into the show ring as a 3 year old. He did and he did us proud. Six months ago we were debating whether or not I would learn to ride him well enough to be able to show him as a 4 year old. It was questionable as my leg was broken at the time. Well, here we are 4 weeks from our first show and he is an angel. He tries to please every second from the moment you go to get on him. I am vertically challenged so it takes me time to get on. I… Continue

Raquel-the Filly

It is so much fun to watch the new babies come in each year. This year Raquel, our now 2 year old, came in. What a different personality she is from her brother. Raquel definitely has attitude. She is a mare and doesn't let anyone forget it. She tries hard, but gets confused, and then gets upset. It really is not fair to her that we keep comparing her to her brother. We have to remember that we have been breeding for over 25 years and she is still one of the best ones we have bred.

It is hard t… Continue

Sorry I haven't responded! The weather has us in the house for a change!

We have a complicated story. After yearning and praying for the ability to have horses again, it happened in a bittersweet way. Two horses escaped ( a Paint and an Appaloosa, both 7, both mares). My fiance's brother brought them to the farm while I was in Korea losing my precious infant granddaughter to birth trauma. The owners were tracked down and they surrendered them to the brother and his girlfriend. Needless to say, they are here. I care for them while the brother provides financially for them and I am the one working with them both. Despite having a pony as a teenager, this is a whole new experience for me.

I am learning how to do this the right way while dealing with the complex issues of family, extended family, and non-family drama! I need all the coaching and education I can get!

My dream is to have a gaited horse that is well-behaved and easy to work with. My life is that I have a beautiful Appaloosa named Cheyenne that has stolen my heart. I am working with her with the little bit of experience I have and all the love I can use.... the hardest part is that I have to consider everyone else's input where decisions are concerned....

These girls are a gift from God sent to teach me that prayer does work at a time when I have to grieve the loss of a baby that never cried or wiggled. He did this for me. I know that. I owe Him learning all I can to do the best I can with this gift!

Thanks! I found this on facebook and it is a blessing for me! I had a horse (pony!) as a kid and was unable to have one since. I am now the mother of grown children with time on my hands... or at least I was until my fiance's brother brought home two horses! Now my time is absorbed by the wonderful gift we have been blessed with and I am learning everything all over again!

I'll try my hardest to get there on that Wed. I have lessons till either 5:30 or 6:30 (depends on if the 4:30 wants to work 1 of her horses or both) I have a feeling that Fri. is going to be out as Sat. will start WAY before early :>)

I'm judging in Rubicon that Saturday and then have students showing in Oshkosh that Sunday. Will try to make it either Thursday or Friday. Is it still at State Fair Park?

When and where is the ASAW show? With Gary's dad and my mother both dying in June I'm kinda out of touch with (what some of us consider) the normal stuff.

Hi Nina,
Guess I was moretired than I realized yesterday. I posted my comment to my own page. geeeez! I'll be sure to take a moment to look up your horse's pics. He sounds like a good-un! Don't know what it's like out your way, but the humidity is terrible here. It's almost 9:00, I've still not had dinner and am not sure I want any..ugh.

Your trainer sounds like a smart lady. Forgive me, but as I'm new to the site I don't remember looking up much. What's your horse's registered name? I think you said you bred him yourself? I love hearing such stories! It's so nice to hear about people who genuinely care about their horses. I suppose I should'nt express myself that way, as we train horses for a living too and they're often not viewed as pets, but I have a hard time letting them go and/or selling them at all if I don't feel good about it. We feed a lot of seniors who have no place to go. Besides, I'd be terrified that the home I thought they were getting wasn't what it was professed to be. Don't know if you looked at our web site, but we have a lot of different kinds of horses in addition to our saddlebreds. Ok..I'm ranting and it's late. Have a good night.

Yeah, there's something to be said for a "Clean slate". I'm much more confident with the babies we've started than those who've come in with problems. How sad that it's so easy to mess up a horse. Rich always says "Some people get up early every day and get paid to mess up horses."
Funny,but sad.
