Sad news...

...I heard that one of my old show horses, Marcel Marceau, was put down today. He was such a special animal that came along at just the right time in my life. He was solid and trustworthy and always took care of me. I won my very first blue ribbon in saddle seat with him at Tanbark in '96, which was only one of the many great rides he game me. Due to his coloring and presence he was always a crowd favorite and many people remember him fondly. He lived out his golden years being spoiled and loved… Continue

Ha! Spotted this while avoiding work...

You know you show Saddlebreds if: -Your horse cost more than your car...and your proud of it! -You try to get all your partying done on the weekdays because you're off at shows on the weekend -You try to figure out a way to eat massive amounts of food and still fit into your suit -Fair food is why you get fat in the summer -You miss school/work functions to go to shows -your main goal is Louisville...the end -Your hot and you know it! as is your horse -Your show suit cost more than your entire r… Continue

good book, so far

Hey everyone- I recently read Water for Elephants, a novel by Sara Gruen and really enjoyed it. I'm a bit of a binge reader and when I find an author I really like I tend to read all of their stuff as quickly as I can get my hands on it. As it turns out, she has 2 other novels and both happen to be about various aspects of the horse world. I started the first one last night which is called Riding Lessons and it's about eventing (something that's always intrigued me) but it's got a similar feel… Continue

YAY!! I'm giddy!

Leo made is first appearance at the World Championship Horse Show in Louisville and he did not disappoint...he took 3rd in his qualifier and after a last minute decision to show him back, he took 4th in the championships! I have never seen him look so beautiful (not a very manly term, but he's really not a very manly horse!). Normally I'm a pretty level headed individual, but I worked myself up into a frenzy for both classes and nearly got emotional for the championship because I was so taken wi… Continue

do you ever find yourself wondering....

...where some of your former four-legged friends are at these days? After being in the business for over 15 years, my family has bought and sold quite a few companions. It was always sad to see one leave...after all, by then they've become more than just a tool for competition. It's not like basketball players who throw away their old balls or shoes and then go out and get brand new ones. I've always bonded with my horses which is something that I think is both unavoidable and a necessity. It's… Continue

Bittersweet

cat·a·clys·mic [kat-uh-kliz-mik] –adjective A violent upheaval that causes great destruction or brings about a fundamental change. Last fall I lost my show horse and companion, Wing Admiral, very suddenly. It was devastating. He was immensly kind, honest, trustworthy, talented and beautiful. Although we only had him for a few years, he had a profound affect on my life and I feel priveliged to have spent time with him. I still find myself getting a little wistful when I look at photos of him… Continue
