All Things Horsey

One of our babies, who is obviously no longer a baby, was retired at the age of 14 after her last class at the Mane Event charity horse show. New York's Best a/k/a Jet retired after a great career and will join Lady Skybuck in the broodmare ranks.

Jet was out of our first mare Best Loved and by New York Times. My mother had always wanted a black horse. Best Loved was by Status Symbol so we knew she had a chance of producing a black baby. My sister and I bred lady (Best Loved) as a present to my mother. After much research, we went to the stallion that we figured would produce a black horse. Hence, Jet was born. She began her career at the age of 3 in Fine Harness with Dick Obenauf. She placed at Louisville top in the ribbons and won the 3 year old Futurity in Fine Harness at the Wisconsin Futurity Horse Show. My sister began showing Jet when she was 4. She was a beautiful pleasure mare who always gave her all and always tried. She placed with Mimi at Midwest, qualified several times at Louisville and loved to show.

Oddly enough, Jet was the only black horse Lady would produce. Best Loved passed away quite a while ago and we had her other daughter, Bit O' Honey who we used to continue the line. Unfortunately, Honey was not the producer her mother was and retired from breeding early in life. She spent her last years at Peachy Kraemer's home with Terri Anne Ullman's pony and retired show mare.

Jet will now retire and will be bred this spring to carry on her mom's legacy. There is not a more deserving mare to live out her life happily in the fields than this mare. Even in her last class on Saturday night, Jet still thought she was a young girl and gave all she had to give. Enjoy motherhood and your retirement Jet. You deserve it! Thanks for making mom so happy for so many years :)
