I remember a year ago, we were wondering if JC would make it into the show ring as a 3 year old. He did and he did us proud. Six months ago we were debating whether or not I would learn to ride him well enough to be able to show him as a 4 year old. It was questionable as my leg was broken at the time. Well, here we are 4 weeks from our first show and he is an angel. He tries to please every second from the moment you go to get on him. I am vertically challenged so it takes me time to get on. I have to use a three step stool. He just stands and waits until everything is adjusted and I am ready to go.
He listens to everything you tell him to do and never drops an ear. Honestly, I believe his goal in life is to please. He gets very upset if he thinks he did something wrong. My trainer says that if there are any mistakes, they are my fault-not his. No pressure there lol. He knows each command. He can be walking and you just say trot and his head raises up and he is trotting. To start his canter, say canter. He is cantering. He is so in tuned to his commands that you have to be careful. If my trainer tells me to walk, he hears it and you can feel him ready to walk. I learned that I just tell him the gait we are in and he continues to do it. I was glad about that because I don't need him listening to the announcer; I would prefer he listens to me.
I think we are ready to show. My riding suit actually fits (thank you biggestloserclub), we have our gaits down, and he is always ready on his game. One afternoon JC was asleep in his stall so my trainer didn't have the heart to wake him. She let him sleep that day. The next day, I went to ride him and he was wonderful. He doesn't have to be ridden everyday or schooled hard. Thank you JC for all you are. I hope I do you proud :)
