All Things Horsey

It is so much fun to watch the new babies come in each year. This year Raquel, our now 2 year old, came in. What a different personality she is from her brother. Raquel definitely has attitude. She is a mare and doesn't let anyone forget it. She tries hard, but gets confused, and then gets upset. It really is not fair to her that we keep comparing her to her brother. We have to remember that we have been breeding for over 25 years and she is still one of the best ones we have bred.

It is hard to remember to have patience. They are not going to look like show horses the day they come into training. She has a lot more attitude than JC, but doesn't seem to have his heart. That just could be because of her age. I remember when JC was her age. We were told he wouldn't amount to much and he certainly is a good boy. I have to remember not to lose faith in her and give her the time she needs to become what she can. She is a talented baby with lots of personality. She loves her carrots and you can play with her in her stall. She is not mean in the least.

I have learned after watching the others out of this line that this line grows slowly, but they are very game like their mother. They have a lot of guts. You just have to give them confidence. Raquel seems like when she finally understands something she has been taught, she remembers it and doesn't let it upset her. She relies totally on her trainer no matter how confused she gets; she never loses confidence in Terri Anne. She looks to her for guidance and praise.

As I think about it, I think that in a few years, I'll be writing the same positive things about her that I now write about JC. As little as last year, we weren't sure he would ever amount to anything. I always have to remember that this is a process and that this process takes patience. I am willing to give Raquel the time she needs as she looks like her mother more than any of the others. We can't be so quick to give up on these babies without giving them the time they need. I will give Raquel her time as I did with JC. Certain people had me believing that JC wouldn't be anything, but I had the utmost confidence in him and he came through. I believe she will too. I will keep everyone posted on her progress.
