All Things Horsey

It is the time of the year where we need to remember and thank all of the people who help our horses look and be the best they can. For some of us, it is our trainers who spend countless hours and a lot of patience to help our horses become the best they can. Not to mention the hours they spend on us as riders and probably more patience to make us the best we can be. It is no wonder we have so many trainers who are either grey or bald. These trainers also care for our horses when they are sick by giving them their medicine or staying up all night worrying about them. Our trainers also get the wonderful job of teaching young babies how to be show horses. They get dragged around the ring, thrown and tossed out of carts on occasion. We won't even mention the demand that customers put on their trainers to make the next Imperator or Sky Watch.

For those who train their own horses, it is their barn managers to thank who remember to turn their horses out and keep their stalls clean and the horses fed and watered. For the most part, a barn owner's job is 24/7, 365 days a year. You can not schedule when a horse will become ill or a water pipe will burst.

We also have to remember our grooms. These people put so much effort and time into our horses to keep their coats in shape and get them ready at horse show. This has to be one of the hardest jobs around-especially during shows. These poor grooms have to sleep on the show grounds to make sure the horses are safe. That can not be a pleasant experience. They have to get up first thing in the morning to get horses washed, tails done, bridles cleaned and make sure they look the best they can when the horse goes into the show ring. They are also the ones that teach the new babies about being brushed and having their feet picked out. I know one of our grooms almost got his head kicked off by our filly who had just come in from the field and had no idea about any one picking up her feet or brushing her. They are also the ones who have to hand walk horses who, for one reason or another, are off work. This is not an easy task especially with a horse who would prefer to be running. These people do so many things for our horses that most of us take for granted.

To all of these people, I would like to say thank you for all you do for our horses.
