All Things Horsey

I think back to May when I was first going to show JC and how I wasn't sure he was ready for an amateur. Boy was I wrong. That horse does whatever you ask of him. He has come thru for me in the shows whenever I have needed him to be there. Yes, we have had our ups and downs, but, mostly, ups. He has been reserve grand champion twice and has always been in the ribbons for me. He has never quit on me or given up even when he had reason to.

I remember our second show. I arrived and JC's leg was swollen. We all looked at it and wondered whether or not he would be able to show. My trainer worked him out and he seemed sound. It didn't seem to bother him at all. So, we made the decision to show. This big hearted animal went into the show ring and didn't take an off step. He didn't quit at all and never gave any indication the leg was bothering him. He just did his thing. I went back to show him in the championship. We still weren't 100% sure of his leg, but, again, decided we would work him out and see how he worked. While we were waiting to warm up, I was standing by his stall and noticed that his mouth was bleeding. I had no clue what was going on. First, his leg and now his mouth. It turned out he popped one of his baby caps. This is not good to take a horse into a show ring with a bloody mouth. True to form for JC, when we took him out to warm him up, he was sound on the leg and the mouth stopped bleeding. He ended up reserve Grand Champion of that show.

JC has taught me what willingness and kindness mean. He tries all the time and never gives up. We are finally becoming a team. He trusts me and I trust him. Isn't that what our horses are all about?
